Day 1 & 2 (Perth to Kalgoorlie)

After months of planning and organising and some more planning and organising, we finally started our road trip. The aim is to drive all the way around Australia in our Troopy (we named her “the Boss”). That’s about 46,000km in total. and we have 6 months to do it.

We left Perth on the 2nd of August, heading towards Kalgoorlie (and the goal was to get there the same day). Our first day of travelling taught us a few things. First of all, things never turn out the way you expect them to (so don’t plan too much).

We thought we were going to make it all the way to Kalgoorlie in one day, but we didn’t. We also thought we wouldn’t be driving when it’s dark, but we did. We expected to cook our first camp meal, but so happens we had left the most important piece of equipment for our gas stove at home. Luckily sandwiches tastes good too, and the night sky looks bloody amazing when you’re in the outback.

We made it to Kalgoorlie on day 2 instead of 1, and got to see the massive open gold pit, known worldwide as “the super pit”. And it was just that, a super pit (as Swedes we giggled a bit).

As night falls so does the temperature. We say over and out for now, as our hands are too cold to continue writing.
