Day 5 – 11 Karijini National Park

We arrived at Karijini National Park on Tuesday 6 August and decided to stay for a good couple of days. With an overflowing Dales camping we continuned on to the slightly more expensive Eco Retreat near Joffrey Gorge. Good thing was – they had showers! With hair scented of coconut, we were ready for some gorge adventures (for those who doesn’t know what a gorge is, think Grand Canyon).

Our top 3 places in Karijini, in no particular order (difficult to choose, since every single place is stunning):

Hancock Gorge – Kermit Pool trail
This was an awesome trail. We had to swim to get there, so no photos unfortunately as we had to leave our bag behind. Beautiful natural pool hidden away in the middle of the rock formation.

Mount Bruce Summit – 1235m
Challenging walk but what an amazing view once you reach the top. Worth every step and all the puffing. Also the only place were you could get phone reception in Karijini and contact to the world outside :)

Dales Gorge – Fern Pool
This was the best place to go for a swim. The water was crystal clear and not too cold (compared to some other places, Hamersley gorge for one), it also had a waterfall.

Some other spots worth mentioning are Hamersley Gorge (great for a swim though freezing cold), Joffrey Falls, Knox Gorge and Weano’s Handrail Pool.

We were told there would be dingos in the area, however we never saw any.
Waking up with nothing but nature and outback outside the car window is unbeatable, as are writing all these notes under a stary sky
