Day 126 - 127 Great Ocean Road
To get to the Great Ocean Road we took the ferry from the Sorrento pier to Queenscliff, then continued straight ahead towards one of the “Great” roads of Australia. We reached the Great Ocean Road fairly late so we stayed the night at a free bushcamp in the Great Otway National Park, right in the middle of tall pine and fern trees. In the morning we went for a stroll to a nearby waterfall, Beauchamp falls, which turned out to be one of the prettiest. It wasn’t very big or impressive in that sense, but the location was like a fairytale. If there would ever be fairies or gnomes to be found, we’d bet it would be in that forest, by that waterfall. There’s plenty of natural wonders to see along the Great Ocean Road and we did pretty good as we stopped at almost all of them – the 12 Apostles, London bridge, Gibsons Steps, The Arch, Loch Ard Gorge and The Grotto. We also got to see some cute koalas (however, they do tend to create a bit of a traffic hazard when they appear in tourist infested areas, as people simply stop in the middle of the road, get out, and start taking pictures. Maybe not the best idea...). The Great Ocean Road is truly great, and with beautiful scenery, but you don’t need more than a day or two to explore it. We left the great road behind and continued towards our next stop – Mount Gambier, South Australia. However, it was not a final goodbye to Victoria, as from this point on we’d be doing a bit of zig zagging across borders to include the places we want to visit, but without driving longer than needed. The plan was – Mount Gambier (SA) to Grampians (VIC) to Broken Hill (NSW) and back to SA. Good thing is that Victoria is a small state in comparison!
