Day 128 – 129 - Mount Gambier
Our first visit to South Australia was a very quick one as we stayed only one night in Mount Gambier. However, we did have enough time to explore most of what Mount Gambier has to offer. Mount Gambier is known for it’s volcanic landscape and crater lakes, and there’s plenty to see and also learn about the landscape. We explored the Blue Lake, a crater filled with water that turns all blue in summer, as well as the cool Umpherston sinkhole – a hole in the ground with a very pretty garden at the bottom. We went at dusk so that we could ‘hit two birds with one stone’ - because that’s when the possums come out and you can take a good look and also feed them if you like (apparently they love grapes and also apples, this we learned from leaving our garbage outside one night and thus found a very happy possum chewing away on the core of an apple). There’s plenty of nice cafes in the town centre, and they have a pretty Cave Garden hidden in the middle of town. A town well worth a visit (if you’re in the area). So, after a quick visit to South Australia, we headed back to Victoria once more.
