Day 129 - 132 Grampians
We crossed the border to Victoria for the second time and we drove straight to the Grampians, one of the post popular national parks and locations in Victoria. We already knew this was a spot worth visiting as we had been here before as part of a tour we did six years ago (when we first came to Australia). We managed to time our visit to just before the Christmas school holidays, so it was nice and quiet in Halls Gap. We stayed three nights in this beautiful national park and did two longer walks to get to see even more of it. First one was the Wonderland loop, 9.6km circuit through what they call the Grand Canyon ( and to the impressive Pinnacle lookout (also a kind of impressive climb to get there). The day after, with legs a bit sore from the day before, we did the Mt Rosea walk, 8.6km. Doesn’t sound as too much perhaps, but when it’s walking in the bush, uphill, that adds to it! The view from the summit was stunning and worth every step. It was still quite cold in the Grampians so a bonfire at night was almost a must to stay warm. And it also makes a perfect opportunity to enjoy some smores. We didn’t see any koalas (there should be plenty) but kangaroos kept us company day and night at the caravan park. After three days we still felt cold (it’s hard to warm up while sleeping in the car and eating every meal outside in cooler temperatures) and decided it was time to head north to Broken Hill (it was a given it would be warmer there!)
